Dredging to Resume in Cobourg Harbour

The Town of Cobourg would like to advise residents that dredging operations of the Cobourg Harbour will be continuing this week.

This year, dredging work began in the spring at the entry of the harbour to allow for the safe return of the Coast Guard. The dredge and pipe will now be working on the harbour’s west side.

The mechanical dredging involves removing accumulated sand and silt, which contributes to shallow water levels and hinders boat anchoring and navigation. Maintaining proper depths in the harbour ensures continued accessibility and functionality for boaters and other recreational users. This initiative is part of the Town’s ongoing efforts to maintain the harbour’s function and safety.

Dewatering Sand on the Beach
A designated disposal area will be set up on the basin beach in the harbour, where piles of dredged sand with holes in the beach will be placed to allow lake water to drain out before the sand is trucked off-site.

Dredging Operations
Since 2009, the Town of Cobourg has owned and operated the Marie Dressler Dredge as a public service to Cobourg and beyond. In addition to servicing the harbour each year, the Town operates the dredge as a business venture, renting out services to maintain neighbouring municipalities harbours and waterways.

Residents along Third Street, Hibernia and Marissa Lane will notice the presence of the dredge supply trailer parked in the Marina parking lot. The dredge trailer will be parked in the Marina parking lot when dredge supplies are needed on site. When not in use, the trailer will be moved to the boat storage compound.
