This coming weekend is the fourth annual Show and Shine for Spencer Devine.

The annual event is in memory of Spencer Devine who passed away at the age of 31-years-old on September 15, 2021 in Port Hope.

Each year since his family, friends and supports have gathered in his honour to raise funds for the community.

Devine’s mother, Liz Jeffries stated the system failed her son time and time again when he reached out for help.

“Spencer was dealing with mental health, he was high anxiety and he was trying to find supports. He made phone calls to doctors offices between Belleville and Oshawa. Clinics that said they were taking new patients – he had a visit to Picton emergency and nobody, not one office, doctor, whoever answered the phone, offered any information where he could find resources or help.”

Spencer’s passion were cars, storm chasing and photography and from that, the annual Show & Shine for Spencer Devine was started.

“Bring you passion on wheels.”

Trucks, cars, motorcycles, foreign cars and exotic cars are all welcome with 12 awards to be given out at the end of the day.

Jeffries said the goal of the Show and Shine is to create awareness with proceeds going to the Port Hope Walk-In Clinic specifically mental health and where to find supports when needed.

Along with the show and shine there will be entertainment including DJ – Chris Martell,
live music with Matt Marcuz and master of ceremonies Greg Leavitt.

Prizes will also be given away and a special Spencer table with t-shirts available.

Jeffries said the goal is to make the Show and Shine for Spencer Devine one of Ontario’s premier car shows.

Jeffries said her son is looking down and guiding the supports of the event.

“He’s shining down on us for sure.”

The event takes place on Sunday, August 17 from 10am-4pm at the Port Hope Fairgrounds at 62 McCaul Street.
