Cobourg Mayor issues statement to Today’s Northumberland following a Council meeting held on Thursday, July 3, 2025 where the Mayor walked out of the meeting.
“I made it very clear today to my Council colleagues that I would not participate in any closed meetings regarding my recent public letter. I also made it clear that I believe the public has the right to know where we each stand as Councillors on this, I would argue the most critical issue affecting our community, certainly in modern history.
I also made it clear to my Council colleagues that I will not alter, or apologize for, or amend, or rescind a single word of my letter, as written.
I want to thank each member of Council for the support they have shown me today. I consider their actions to be very brave. We don’t have to always agree and I think it would be wrong if we always did, but we can disagree while still maintaining a deep respect for one another.
I know full well when the fewest voices can be the loudest and the most seemingly aggressive, that it takes real determination to stand up for what you believe in.
I will continue to fight proudly for the citizens of Cobourg, as I have since becoming Mayor.
