Northumberland OPP – Numerous Charges After Stolen Vehicle Recovered (Name Released)

In Police Blotter

Officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have recovered a stolen vehicle and laid multiple charges following a traffic stop on Highway 401.

On July 26, 2025, shortly after 9:00 a.m., an officer was on patrol on Highway 401 in the Township of Cramahe, when the in-cruiser Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system alerted them to a stolen pick-up truck travelling eastbound. The vehicle was believed to be stolen the previous day from an address near Orangeville.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and confirmed the vehicle as stolen.

As a result, Ibrahim MAZAMBU, 20-years-old, from Laval, Quebec, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possessing automobile master key
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in July.

ALPR technology is now installed in OPP patrol vehicles and plays a vital role in enhancing public safety. These systems automatically scan licence plates and compare them against databases to identify stolen vehicles, suspended drivers, missing persons, and other public safety concerns. Officers receive real-time alerts, allowing for swift and informed action on Ontario’s roads.
