On Monday, May 19, Northumberland County’s Golden Plough Lodge long-term care home welcomed residents, their families and staff for a vibrant Wellness and Health Fair focused on self-care, mental health awareness, and holistic well-being. This fair was made possible thanks to support from Cameco, who is committed to making a positive, long-term difference in local communities.

The fair featured a wide variety of inclusive and engaging activities designed to support mental, emotional, and physical health. Attendees participated in mindfulness workshops, creative arts sessions, and movement-based activities like Zumba. Residents also enjoyed calming experiences such as reiki and mini manicure makeovers. A range of interactive elements – including a petting zoo – added to the sense of joy, comfort, and connection throughout the day.

“This event created meaningful moments of connection and care,” said the County’s Director of Health and Human Services, Glenn Dees. “It reminded us all how important it is to nurture mental and emotional wellbeing – especially in a long-term care setting where community support plays such a vital role. We sincerely appreciate the contribution from Cameco to make this event possible.”

The event provided space for families and staff to come together, recharge, and explore new approaches to self-care in a warm, welcoming environment. The donation from Cameco allowed the home to broaden the scope of the fair – adding more therapeutic activities and engagement opportunities that enriched the experience for everyone involved.

“Cameco is happy to support collaborative mental health events such as the Golden Plough Lodge’s Wellness and Health Fair” says Dale Clark, vice-president of Cameco’s Fuel Services Division. “This collaboration reflects our commitment to addressing mental health across our community, as we believe that mental wellbeing is a vital part of overall health and quality of life.”

The Golden Plough Lodge is committed to supporting residents in maintaining a life of purpose, choice, dignity and respect. Inclusive, community-driven initiatives that prioritize wellness and mental health are an important part of these efforts.
