Video – Warm Weather Has Arrived Along with Encampments in Cobourg

In Local

There seems to be a number of encampments popping up in the Cobourg area.

Despite having Transition House/310 Division Street available, there seems to be a number of encampments around the downtown area.

Over the weekend a encampment was spotted along the inner harbour basin and on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 there was an encampment spotted to the west of William Street, just south of Harden Street.

It appears the encampment has been vacated but garbage has been strewn about the area and will need to be cleaned up.

A sign near the tent from the Town of Cobourg stated:

Date: May 15 2025

This encampment is located on municipal property and must be vacated. All items are to be removed by: Saturday May 17th 2025 at 1:00 PM

All items remaining will be collected by Town staff and held for a period of two (2) weeks. To reclaim removed items, please contact the Town of Cobourg, Municipal Law Enforcement and Licensing Office at 905-372-8380 or attend in person at Town Hall. If the items are not claimed within this time, the items will be disposed of.

Please remove all personal belongings from this location before the above-mentioned date. Failure to vacate this property may result in charges under the Ontario Trespass to Property Act R.S.O 1990.

The reverse side of this notice contains resources available for those experiencing homelessness.”
