City of Belleville – Introducing Updated Accessory Dwelling Unit Incentives

In City Hall, Local

The City of Belleville is pleased to announce the launch of two new Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) incentive programs under the City’s Community Improvement Plan (CIP):

ADU in New Housing Rebate: Provides home buyers who include accessory dwelling units in a newly built home with a $5,000 rebate per unit (e.g. $10,000 for two units).

ADU in Existing Housing and Detached Accessory Buildings Rebate: Provides property owners who create accessory dwelling units on their property with a $5,000 rebate per unit.

The updated incentive programs are part of the City’s action plan to accelerate the construction of housing in the city, and will provide home and property owners with financial reimbursement for adding units to their property.

Accessory dwelling units are separate, self-contained residential units that are secondary to the main dwelling and are located on the same property as the main dwelling, and may be commonly known as garden suites or second units. These units help boost the rental supply, increase supplemental income for residents and directly address housing affordability in the city.

Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Eligibility requirements apply.
