Northumberland OPP – Investigating Two Distraction Thefts

In Police Blotter

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating two incidents relating to distraction thefts reported to have occurred on the same day.

On May 19, 2025, at around 3:30 p.m., police received a report relating to the theft of cash from an address on County Road 45 in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand. The caller advised that a male entered the property while they were outside and engaged in conversation regarding the whereabouts of a farm.

The complainant later noticed a second male on the other side of the property. Following both males having left the property in a silver passenger vehicle, the victim noticed that money had been taken from inside the residence.

On the same day, another caller advised that while they were outside, a male had come onto their property on Morrow Road in the Municipality of Trent Hills. He also began a similar conversation before leaving the address. The victim later realized that their jewelry box was no longer in the residence.

Officers believe the occurrences to be linked and the investigations are on-going. Police are looking for anyone who may have observed the vehicle and occupants, or have video dash cam recordings, to contact Northumberland OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
