The number of participants is increasing as word spreads about Parkrun in Cobourg.

Parkruns are free, weekly community events for all ages, abilities, backgrounds and walks of life that originally started in Britain.

If you run or even walk the weekly five-kilometre or two-kilometre event is for you.

Parkrun is a place where people can come together, to move however they like, and feel good, which is why it’s called, “The Feel Good Movement.”

In 2004, Parkrun’s founder, Paul Sinton-Hewitt, organized the first run in London, England with 13-runners and three volunteers.

Since then, more than 2,500 Parkruns have been set up in 23 countries around the world.

Volunteers started up the first Parkrun in Cobourg on May 3, 2025 in Victoria Park.

On May 10, more participants came out.

“We’re really excited,” said organizer Geoff Richards.

Anyone traveling around the world can look up the nearest Parkrun on a app to find the nearest location to participate.

On Saturday, one woman was from Halifax who joined in on the fun run.

“We do the same route every week and there are three of us that thought it would be a great thing to have in Cobourg. It’s a community event for people who can come and join in.”

The social aspect is a big part of it said Richards and after the run a number of participants visit downtown Cobourg for coffee.

For those to wish to participate the next run will be held just south of the Cobourg Lawn Bowling Club in Victoria Park on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 9 a.m.
