Cobourg Woman Charged with Impaired

A 45-year-old Cobourg woman is facing impaired driving charges following a traffic stop early Saturday
morning.

On Sunday, May 11, 2025, at approximately 3:20 a.m., police on general patrol observed a vehicle
travelling Eastbound on James Street West with a burnt-out licence plate light. A traffic stop was initiated.

During the traffic stop, police detected signs of alcohol consumption and administered an approved
roadside screening device test, which the driver failed. As a result of the investigation, the 45-year-old
Cobourg woman was arrested and charged with operation while impaired over 80 and Improper Number
Plate Light (Highway Traffic Act). The vehicle was impounded, and the driver’s licence was suspended.

The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.

 

Two People Charged with Impaired

Cobourg Police charged two individuals with impaired driving following separate traffic stops on Saturday morning.
On Saturday, May 10, 2025, at approximately 1:00 a.m., police on general patrol observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign in the area of King Street West and Burnham Avenue. A traffic stop was initiated, and signs of alcohol consumption were detected. The driver, a 30-year-old Cobourg man, failed the roadside screening device test. He was arrested and charged with operation while impaired over 80 and disobey stop sign – fail to stop. The vehicle was impounded, and the driver’s licence was suspended. The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date and issued a part III summons.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., police observed a vehicle travelling westbound on King Street with the driver appearing to use a cell phone. The vehicle crossed the center line and mounted the curb before coming to a stop. Signs of alcohol consumption were detected during the traffic stop, and the driver, a 38-year-old Cobourg woman, failed the roadside screening device test. She was arrested and charged with operation while impaired over 80 and using a handheld device. The vehicle was impounded, and the driver’s licence was suspended. The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date and issued a part III summons.

The Cobourg Police Service encourages the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911. Impaired driving is the leading criminal cause of death and injury in Canada, yet every impaired driving crash is preventable. By calling 911 and reporting suspected impaired drivers to the police, everyone can play a role in keeping roads and waterways safe. Always plan for a safe ride home, designate a sober driver, or call a friend, a relative, or a cab.

Pickering Man Charged with Uttering Threats and Harassment

A 20-year-old Pickering man is facing charges for uttering threats and harassment.
On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., police attended an address in the area of Elgin Street and Burnham Street in Cobourg for a report of threats and harassment. Police were informed that an individual threatened two others over the phone and on voicemail.
As a result of the police investigation, a 20-year-old Pickering man was arrested and charged with two counts of uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death and harassment by communication. The man was held for a bail hearing.

(No information was released on two collisions recently on Elgin and Burnham Street along with Carlisle and Westwood Drive)
