Northumberland OPP – Firearms Charges in Cramahe Township

In Police Blotter

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual following an incident involving a firearm.

On March 31, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., police received information that a person was experiencing a crisis and in possession of an unauthorised weapon at an address in the Township of Cramahe.

Police arrived and were able to ascertain the weapon to be a firearm. An investigation into the incident began and containment was established for the safety of those involved and nearby residences. Due to the nature of the call, members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit (K9) were also dispatched to assist. At around 1:40 a.m., April 1, 2025, officers took the individual into custody without incident, and they were transported to a local detachment.

The Northumberland OPP Crime Unit was also engaged to assist with the investigation and carry out a search warrant at the residence.

As a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old male, from the Township of Cramahe, has been charged with:

– Possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with

– Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order.

The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
