Video – One Person Taken Into Custody After Smoke Cannister Discharged at Greenwood Towers

One person has been taken into custody following an incident at Greenwood Towers in Port Hope on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

Port Hope Police were called to the area after a smoke cannister was discharged in a room in the early morning hours. A group of individuals were playing cards when the suspect threw a bottle of beer against a mirror then discharged the smoke cannister one resident told Today’s Northumberland.

Shortly before 4 a.m. Port Hope Police, Cobourg Police and OPP converged on the apartment and initiated a gunpoint takedown of the suspect who was taken into custody.

It was unknown if there were any suspicious packages and as a precaution all the apartments were evacuated.

Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services along with Northumberland County Paramedics were placed on standby on Dorset Street East.

The OPP Explosives Disposal Unit was notified and attended the scene searching the apartment.

The scene was cleared at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Police are continuing their investigation.
