With nearly four decades of serving the public, Port Hope Police Inspector Katie Andrews retired on March 31, 2025.
“It’s been such a great ride,” said Andrews taking a break from a farewell get-together in Port Hope to speak to Today’s Northumberland.
Andrews started her career as the first civilian dispatcher with Bancroft OPP and ended up as a dispatcher with the Port Hope Police Service in 1998.
At the age of 40, she was hired as a police officer and moved through the ranks to Inspector.
“It’s been wonderful and I’m ready for my next step in life to spend with my children and grandchildren.”
Spending 39-years in policing, Andrews has witnessed a lot of changes, but admits, that, “I put my job first and my family suffered. And it’s really great to see that young police officers put their family first and understand that the job will still be there tomorrow.”
Andrews will be moving to western Ontario to be closer to her family but said she will miss the community that has been home to her for so many years.
With no regrets to speak of, Andrews said the last few days of policing she’s had a few tears and some good laughs speaking of memories with fellow officers.
Like the last day of her job, as well as what the future holds, Andrews said, “I’m not sure what tomorrow will bring.”
