Video – Ice Fishing In Cobourg Harbour Doesn’t Last Long

In Local

Two anglers visiting Cobourg said it was worth a try, but their ice fishing expedition on Cobourg Harbout didn’t last long.

In fact, they likely spent more time putting up and taking down there tent then they did fishing on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

The two men (one from Peterborough and one from Bowmanville) set up on the inner harbour by the Cobourg Marina building around 11 a.m., but by 12:30 p.m. they were off the frozen harbour.

After being on the ice for over an hour, they noticed a by-law officer in the parking lot and knew the jig was up.

“We saw the by-law officer come by – so we decided to come talk to her because we knew she was going to kick us out.”

The pair both knew they weren’t allowed to fish in the inner harbour, “but we decided to give it a try.”

“There is no boats, there is no one out there and over a foot of ice, so we didn’t think we were hurting anyone.”

“It was completely safe to be out there.”

Both men said the by-law officer was very nice speaking to them and didn’t issue them a ticket.

Interviewing the one angler he said the area is a great place for fishing.

“I’d love for it to open up – maybe event just in the winter. I’m going to talk to the city and see what they say.”
