A few hours after Chrystia Freeland resigned from cabinet, Northumberland-Peterborough South Member of Parliament Philip Lawrence is calling for an election.

On December 16, 2024, the Deputy Prime Minister posted her resignation stating, Prime Minister Trudeau no longer wants her to work as Finance Minister, but offered her another position.

Freeland’s response was, “I have concluded the only honest and viable path is for me to resign from Cabinet.”

Lawrence stated to Today’s Northumberland, “Canada is in a housing crisis and our economy is in shambles.”

“In under 24-hours, Justin Trudeau has lost his Minister of Housing and Minister of Finance. His top ministers in top files don’t even have confidence in him. Today it has been made more clearer than ever before, we need an election and we need it now.”

“We cannot go on like this.”
