Breaking News – Banging Noise from Construction Equipment Sends Cobourg Schools Into Lockdown

In Police Blotter

The sound of banging construction equipment sent two schools into lockdown on Monday, November 25, 2024 in Cobourg.

At approximately 12:40 p.m. today, police were dispatched to the area of King Street and Cottesmore Avenue in the Town of Cobourg for a report of a caller hearing what they believed to be gunshots.

Police arrived on the scene to investigate. Surrounding schools including CCI and C.R. Gummow were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Police cleared the area and the schools. It was determined that the sound was from the construction site in the area where air-compressed tools were being used. There is currently no risk to public safety.
