Update – Video – Brighton Woman Charged with Impaired by Drugs (No Name Released)

A 44-year-old Brighton woman is facing charges after police responded to a motor vehicle collision on
Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 11:44 a.m., police responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the area of Elgin Street and William Street in the Town of Cobourg. It was reported that the driver allegedly struck a fence after narrowly missing a pedestrian. No injuries were reported.

Police spoke with the driver, who was exhibiting signs of impairment by drugs. As a result of the police
investigation, the driver, a 44-year-old Brighton woman, was charged with impaired driving.

The accused was released on an undertaking with a court date of October 16, 2024.

Cobourg Police Service encourages the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911.

Impaired driving is the leading criminal cause of death and injury in Canada, yet every impaired driving crash is preventable. By calling 911 and reporting suspected impaired drivers to the police, everyone can play a role in keeping roads and waterways safe.
