A Cobourg business owner said his staff was verbally abused and things got physical over a incident in August.
The seemingly lack of action by Cobourg Police lead him to post video of the incident on social media.
Ryan Mullins who owns Papa’s PizzaLand on William Street said the incident happened on August 9,
Mullins stated on a social media post that a person wearing a Corrections uniform came into the store and was “verbally abusive” towards the staff.
The manager who was working that afternoon told Today’s Northumberland that the person ordered a pizza, but didn’t agree with the price.
When the customer because belligerent with the cashier, the manager intervened to try and control the situation. The manager said the individual was swearing at him and the staff.
“I have an 18-year-old daughter and it was unacceptable the way he was treating her.”
When the manager of the store came forward and took the pizza off the counter, the customer swatted it away, knocking the tip jar off the counter.
The video contains no audio, but it clearly shows the customer in a agitated state, pointing his finger at the manager.
Mullins said, in an effort to de-escalate the situation, his manager went outside to tell the individual how he should treat people properly.
The Correctional officer bumped the managers chest and at one point shoved the manager before leaving the area.
Cobourg Police were notified of the incident, but Mullins said after a month of investigating he was told by the investigating officer and the Sergeant there will be no charges.
Police told him the manager consented to the altercation when he left the store.
Today’s Northumberland reached out to Cobourg Police for comment on Monday, September 9, 2024 and were told, “the investigation is still open at this time.”
Today’s Northumberland also reached out to the Correctional officer for comment through social media, but did not get a reply.
The disagreement was over $4.52.
