Northumberland OPP – Fatal Collision Involving Motor Vehicle and Train

In Police Blotter

Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal collision involving a passenger vehicle and a train in the Township of Alnwick-Haldimand.

On September 9, 2024, at approximately 12:50 a.m., OPP received a call from CN Police regarding a collision that had occurred on Station Road. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Township of Alnwick-Haldimand Fire Department also responded to the incident.

The sole occupant of the passenger vehicle, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The road and railway line at the location was closed as OPP Forensic Identification Services (IDENT) assisted officers with the investigation. OPP resources were clear around 6:00 a.m. and the railway continued to be closed until approximately 12:00 p.m., as CN Police conduct their own investigation.

The OPP investigation is on-going and is being assisted by the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit.
