It was a rare sight – but Elvis was spotted in Cobourg on Saturday, August 24, 2024.
Elvis tribute artist Sam Calleri from Keswick comes down to visit Cobourg usually more than once a year at the Victoria Park Campground.
Sixty-three-year-old Calleri always enjoys coming down and performs by his friend Joe DeMarco’s trailer which is usually along the boardwalk so others passing by can enjoy the music.
Calleri said he’s been a Elvis tribute artist for two decades winning numerous competitions.
Although Calleri has retired from competing he still enjoys entertaining.
“When we go on stage, it’s an illusion to them and we try to do the best we can and people love it.”
“The love Elvis – he was so kind and generous and had a big heart.”
“It’s keeping his legend alive.”
When Calleri first starts playing music at his friends trailer, people quickly get into the spirit, dancing and wanting their picture with Elvis.
“Always a crowd here and always people coming up for the beach. They all get shocked – I go to the beach and I see Elvis.”
Calleri never saw Elvis in concert, but it’s on his bucket list to go to Memphis next year.
“Everybody loves Elvis – his music is fantastic.”
The concert was also a chance to donate to the Canadian Firefighters Museum.
