The ribbers are in Cobourg and Ribfest is just about set to begin starting on Friday, August 16, 2024.
The Rotary Club of Cobourg puts on Ribfest every year in Victoria Park and Rotarians have worked throughout the week in Cobourg setting up for the annual event.
Rotary Club of Cobourg President, Tom Behan spoke with Today’s Northumberland about this weekends event.
With a variety of ribbers, music, beverages and vendors Behan said it’s going to be a fantastic weekend.
A special event is happening on Friday, August 16 with members of the 424 Search and Rescue Squadron who will be parachuting on Victoria Beach at 2 p.m. (Weather permitting)
The SARTECS (Search and Rescue Technicians) regularly can been seen training with members of the Canadian Coast Guard cutter Cape Rescue off of Cobourg on Lake Ontario.
Rotary starts planning for the event in September with meetings and for the last six weeks they’ve had weekly meetings making sure everything has been covered for the event.
This week there have been upwards of 30 Rotarians and friends in Victoria Park setting up for the three day event.
“The money we raise Rotary gives back to the community.”
“It all goes back to things like Ed’s House, Habitat for Humanity, the hospital and other needs in the community.”
Although it’s hard work Rotarians, they love doing it and giving back to their community with the support of the public.
Behan said with a smile, it’s a time where they get to do the work.
“It’s good fun. These guys down here are all businessmen. These guys are not used to doing any hands on work. So they get to come down and do hands on work and people boss them around,” Behan said with a smile.
Ribfest starts at noon on Friday and finishes at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Friday and Saturday Ribfest ends at 11 p.m.
