Belleville Police Service – Incidents Include MVC, MHA Apprehension

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 79 calls for service over a 24-hour period beginning at 5:00 am on July 08, 2024 to 5:00 am on July 09, 2024.

Motor Vehicle Collision
On the 8th of July at approximately 9:50pm, Belleville Police and Paramedics responded to the intersection of Sidney Street and Bridge Street West for a collision between an E-Bike and car. Two parties who were on the E-Bike at the time of the collision were transported to the Belleville General Hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The collision remains under investigation and any witnesses are asked to contact the investigating officer Cst. Waite at mwaite@bellevillleps.ca

Mental Health Act Apprehension
On the 8th of July at 9:04pm, the Belleville Police Service received a notification from another policing agency that they were investigating the report of a 35-year-old female who was in crisis. Police were able to determine the female was in the area of the Whitney Norris Bridge. Officers searched the area and located the female who had climbed over the guard rail and was sitting on a light standard near the top of the bridge. Belleville Fire and Paramedics attended as a precaution. Members of the Belleville Police Crisis Negotiating Team attended and spoke at length with the female. Police were able to peacefully resolve the situation with no reported injuries. The female was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to the Belleville General Hospital for treatment. Bay Bridge Road was closed to traffic until approximately 11:30pm. The Belleville Police Service would like to thank motorists for their patience and understanding during the road closure to allow for the safe police operation.

Traffic Enforcement – Community Safety Zone
On the 8th of July at 10:16am, Belleville Police were monitoring the speeds of traffic on Palmer Road in the Community Safety Zone. Police observed a vehicle travelling at 73km/h in the posted 40 km/h zone. Police stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver. The police investigation revealed that the 56-year-old female from Belleville was also a suspended driver. As a result, the driver was charged with speeding and driving while suspended under the Highway Traffic Act. She was issued a summons to appear in traffic court in August.
