Video – Firefighters Get Live Demonstration of Fire Suppression Agent

In Local

Firefighters from Hamilton Township and area had the chance to see a fire suppression agent demonstration on Thursday, June 27, 2024.

A company called 1200 Degrees which is a fire equipment company which sells anything from fire apparatus to hoses.

They are located in Ontario and Quebec.

On Thursday they were in Hamilton Township demonstrating the properties of a product called F-500 which is a agent which minimizes the resources that are allocated to a fire said Eastern Equipment Sales Representative Alex Caldwell.

One demonstration had two stacks of skids placed side-by-side.

One of the stacks of skids was sprayed with F-500 and the other wasn’t.

The stack that wasn’t sprayed with F-500 was then lit on fire.

“The reason why we pre-sprayed one side was to show two things. You could see the one side of the skids get up to a temperature of over 1,000 Fahrenheit and not ignite the other skid. But as well, it’s going to keep that other skid quite cold. So afterwards when it was knocked down, you really saw that cold aspect. So you saw that cooling aspect bring the on fire skid down to about 100 (Fahrenheit) and the other skid back to normal (temperature).”

Caldwell said the product has been available since 1997 with it being popular in Europe and the United States.

“It seems odd that more people don’t use it and we hope we can showcase it more and more.”

The product can be used for any type of fire including lithium.

“The big thing is, you’re going to use a lot less water and the firefighters are going to spend less time at a scene. It will be a better overhaul and you’re going to be able to knock down a fire much faster which we all showcased tonight.”
