A look at migrant workers in Northumberland County takes place Thursday at Cobourg’s Columbus Community Centre.

This is part of the Northumberland Learning Connection’s spring 2024 series Migration: How Movement Changes The World.

It is estimated that more than 70,000 migrant agricultural workers are employed in Canada, almost half of them in Ontario. Researcher Stephanie Mayell – a member of the Migrant Workers’ Health Project – has been conducting ethnographic health research with migrant agricultural workers in Canada and across rural Jamaica since 2014.

Horizons of Friendship staffers Megan Botha and Bessie Hodder and staff members from Horizons of Friendship will join the speaker to discuss how the agency’s Migrant Worker Outreach Program supports the health and the legal and social status of migrant workers in Northumberland County.

The Columbus Community Centre is located at 232 Spencer St. E., and tickets for the 7:30 p,m. session are $25, available on the Northumberland Learning Centre website
