Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre (Cornerstone), is looking forward to celebrating its 8th annual Women’s Day Luncheon on Thursday, May 9th, 2024.
Cornerstone’s Women’s Day Luncheon is a signature event that brings the community together for an afternoon at the Best Western to celebrate and empower women, while enjoying lunch and hearing from guest speaker Maryam Monsef. The funds from the luncheon go towards Cornerstone’s necessary programs and services, helping support local families rebuild their lives after experiencing gender-based violence. “We look forward to this event every year, and we are thrilled to welcome Maryam Monsef as this year’s guest speaker” said Cornerstone Executive Director, Nancy Johnston.
In light of the recommendations that have followed from the local Ryan Coroner’s Inquest that examined the death of Gladys Ryan, Cornerstone is looking to increase awareness about gender-based violence and our role as a community to address the issue. “Cornerstone took the position of being in support of all joint recommendations that came from the inquest and has expanded its focus on addressing the increased risk for women who reside in rural areas, this includes parts of Northumberland County. Events, such as the luncheon, are one way for us as a community to raise awareness and work together to create a future free from gender-based violence. Seeing everyone come together to show their support at this event is a reminder of the great community we are proud to be part of” commented Johnston.
The generous Women’s Day Luncheon sponsors make this annual event possible, and Cornerstone couldn’t be more pleased to announce this year’s lead sponsor is long-term supporter of Cornerstone, Lindsey Edwards, NOCO Realty Group. “Cornerstone’s Women’s Day Luncheon is the most coveted event I look forward to each year. I adore being in a room, surrounded by so many incredible women and community supporters, all in the name of providing much needed awareness and fundraising efforts for Cornerstone” commented Lindsey Edwards.
Cornerstone encourages everyone to join us at the Best Western in Cobourg on Thursday, May 9th from 11:00am to 2:00pm to enjoy an afternoon together and support women and children in our community. The luncheon plays a critical role in funding the various programs and services Cornerstone offers and helps to turn fear into hope for women and children in Northumberland County.
