Quinte West OPP – Motorist Charged with Stunt and Impaired Driving (Name Released)

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver with both stunt and impaired driving following a traffic stop on Highway 401.

On April 9, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Quinte West OPP conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Highway 401 eastbound, west of Shannonville Road, after observing it operating at speeds in excess of 190 km/hr.

During the investigation, the officer utilized an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, charges were laid under the Criminal Code (CC) and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

ROBIN (full legal name), 21 years old, from Etobicoke, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol CC
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed HTA
  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero HTA
  • Follow too closely HTA
  • Prohibited use of alternating high beam headlights HTA

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on April 27, 2024. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for fourteen days, and their licence suspended for 90 days.
