Northumberland OPP – Colborne Man Charged with Impaired After Traffic Complaint (Name Released)

A member from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged an individual after a concerned citizen alerted police to an impaired driver.

On March 1, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m., OPP responded to a complaint regarding a passenger vehicle unable to maintain its lane travelling eastbound on Highway 401 in Hamilton Township. An officer located the vehicle on Big Apple Drive in the Township of Cramahe and entered into an impaired driving investigation.

Luke PALMER, 36-years-old from Colborne has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

There has now been 11 individuals charged for impaired operation since the beginning of 2024 in Northumberland County. Drivers are continuing to take chances and motorists are reminded that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving.
