Brighton Marine Rescue Looking for Volunteers

In Local, Upcoming Events

Brighton Marine Rescue is looking for new members to help us, help others.

Brighton Marine Rescue (BMR) is a volunteer organization that offers a challenging and rewarding service. We help boaters in times of distress. Our members come from many different backgrounds and experience levels but share a common goal of professionalism, and service to others. Some boating experience and a desire to give back to the community are also important. We may be volunteers but we are highly trained, professional, and provide a critical service.

BMR operates a purpose built, fast rescue boat, potentially in high winds and rough seas, during Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. Additionally, SAR Taskings may occur at any time of day or night during the boating season and in any weather conditions.

At the end of each season, BMR evaluates our crews and membership knowing that member spots will open as part of normal attrition. This gives us the opportunity to recruit new members that have the following basic requirements.

1. Be at least 18 years of age and a Canadian Citizen or. Landed immigrant.

2. Be able to pass a criminal record screening.

3. Have basic boating knowledge and experience.

4. Pleasure Craft Operators Card. (PCOC)

5. Radio Operators Certificate Maritime. (ROC-M) – Can be obtained within 1 year of membership.

6. Standard First Ade training – Can be obtained within 2 years of membership.

7. Have an interest in becoming an active team member in a volunteer organization.

8. Have time and willingness to participate in training and taskings.

9. Reside within 30 minutes response time of our vessel’s dock in Brighton.

10. Be able to commit to contributing a few hours per week through the boating season.

If you have a few hours per week to help us out with our SAR operations, are interested in working within a team of well trained, professional, crew members, we would like to speak with you.
