Peterborough Police Weekend Report – Four Impaired Charges, Public Mischief and Assault Officer Arrest (No Names Mentioned)

Impaired Arrest

A 52-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after an incident Saturday evening.

On February 3, 2024, officers conducted a RIDE program in the area of Water Street and Nassau Mills Road.  Shortly after setting up, officers stopped a vehicle and noticed an empty can of alcohol in the centre console.  Upon further interaction with the driver, the officer noticed signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court February 27, 2024.

 

Impaired Arrest

A 35-year-old Peterborough woman is facing impaired charges after an incident Saturday evening.

At approximately 6:45pm on February 3, 2024, an officer on general patrol in the Monaghan and Lansdowne area saw a vehicle being driven erratically including nearly rear ending another vehicle, almost striking a snowbank, and cutting off the officer in a marked cruiser.  In speaking with the driver, the officer noticed signs of impairment with the driver.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)
  • Change lane – not in safety (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on February 20, 2024.

 

Impaired Arrest

A 35-year-old Norwood man is facing impaired charges after a traffic stop Saturday morning.

At approximately 7:50am on February 3, 2024, officers conducted a traffic stop in the Ashburnham Drive and Lansdowne Street area. Upon speaking with the driver, officers noticed signs of impairment and located drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old Norwood man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs

The accused was issued a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court February 27, 2024.

 

Impaired Arrest

A 45-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after an incident Friday evening.

At approximately 8:25pm on February 2, 2024, officers on patrol in the Bethune Street and Brock Street area saw a vehicle enter the section that is closed to vehicular traffic.  The officers were able to safely conduct a traffic stop in the Simcoe Street and Aylmer Street area.  Upon speaking with the driver, they noticed signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Disobey sign (Highway Traffic Act)
  • Driving while under suspension (Highway Traffic Act)
  • Improper left turn (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was issued a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court February 20, 2024.

 

Assault Officer Arrest

Two people are facing charges after an incident Friday evening.

At approximately 10:30pm on February 2, 2024, an officer on general patrol in the Park Street and Hunter Street area spotted a man staggering in the street.  The officer stopped to speak to the man who became extremely aggressive yelling and swearing at the officer. A female arrived on the scene and also started yelling and swearing at the officer.  The pair did not listen to the officers demands to leave the area.  When the officer attempted to take the male into custody for causing a disturbance, the male started resisting arrest and the female grabbed and punched the officer several times in the head.  The officer continued to warn the people to stop, informing them a police dog would be released if they did not.  Neither party complied and K9 Isaac was deployed to help with the arrest.  The female stopped and stood still while the male suffered a minor bite injury and attempted to grab the dog’s face.  Several other officers arrived on scene to assist and the two people were taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation,

A 36-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault a Peace Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court February 20, 2024.

A 37-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Causing a Disturbance
  • Obstruct Peace Officer

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court February 20, 2024.

 

Public Mischief Arrest

A 33-year-old Peterborough is facing charges after an incident early Sunday morning.

At approximately 1:30am on February 4, 2024, a 9-1-1 call was received reporting gunshots in the area of Park Street North and Charlotte Street.  However, upon arrival there was no disturbance or people in the area.  Through investigation, officers located a man in a vehicle in the George Street and Hilliard Street area believed to be connected to the prank 9-1-1 call along with a small amount of drugs.

As a result, a 33-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Public Mischief
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Fentanyl

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following conditions keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court February 27, 2024.

The Peterborough Police Service reminds the public that a false report to police puts everyone, the public and officers, at risk and can result in charges.

  

Robbery Suspect Sought

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a robbery at a store in Peterborough.

At approximately 3:15pm on February 3, 2024, officers were called to a business in the George Street and Brock Street area. Upon arrival, they learned that a man had entered the store brandished a knife at the store employee and demanded cash before taking off on foot with some money.  No one was injured in the incident.  Officers checked the area, but a suspect was not located.

The suspect was described to police as:

  • white male
  • thin build
  • approximately 6’0″
  • blue jacket with hood up
  • reflectors on the sleeves and shoulders
  • red shirt seen under the blue jacket from the back
  • blue jeans
  • grey shoes
