Cobourg Firefighters Respond To Encampment Fire – Man Discusses Journey Through Homelessness

In Editor Choice, Local, Police Blotter

Cobourg Fire Department attended two encampment fires on Sunday, February 4, 2024 on Division Street.

Shortly before 8 p.m. firefighters were dispatched to 513 Division Street for a fire behind the building.  The caller stated flames were approximately a metre high against the building.

When fire crews arrived a person had doused the flames, but firefighters could see smoke coming from the east side of Division Street across from the VIA station where they have previously attended several times for encampment fires.

A homeless person named Terry was having the fire to keep warm.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and advised Terry of places to attend including The Warming Hub.

Immediately after dousing the fire, firefighters responded to a medical call in the east end of Cobourg.

Terry spoke with Today’s Northumberland about his journey through homelessness.
