Cobourg Police – Port Hope Man Charged with Theft, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Mischief, Fail to Comply, Etc (No Name Released)

A 45-year-old Port Hope man faces charges after police responded to a theft report at a local business.

On December 14, 2023, at approximately 5:45 pm, the Cobourg Police Service commenced an investigation after receiving a theft report from a business on Elgin Street West in Cobourg.

It was reported that on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, a male suspect entered the store, selected several items, concealed the items, and exited the store without attempting to pay. The theft was captured on the store’s CCTV system and reported to police.

Investigating officers identified the suspect. With the assistance of the Port Hope Police Service, a 45-year-old Port Hope man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, mischief to property under $5,000, fail to comply with probation order, driving while under suspension, and driving a motor vehicle with no currently validated permit.

The accused was released with a future court date. The stolen property was recovered.
