Cameco Fund for Mental Health 2023 Awards Grants to 11 Northumberland County Organizations

In Editor Choice, Local

The Cameco Fund for Mental Health has awarded 11 grants totaling $88,000 to organizations in Northumberland County working on mental health projects. This year’s grants will benefit a wide range of people and support the delivery of mental health initiatives through a variety of community organizations.

Two events were held in support of the Cameco Fund for Mental Health – the 12th annual Cameco Charity Golf Tournament, which raised $26,000, and the Step Up for Mental Health 5K event, which saw over 600 runners and walkers come out to raise over $57,000. Every dollar from the 5K registration fees, plus a matching amount from Cameco, supported the Cameco Fund for Mental Health. These events, along with donations, brought the total available to $88,000.

Including this year’s amount, the Cameco Fund for Mental Health has granted over $280,000 to mental health programs in Northumberland County since 2019.

“The work being done by local organizations to address mental health needs in our communities is outstanding,” said Dale Clark, vice-president of Cameco’s Fuel Services Division. “There is clearly a need for funding, and we are proud to be able to come together with the community to help support this important work across Northumberland County.”

Following a call for funding applications in October, submissions were adjudicated by a panel of representatives from Cameco, local mental health experts and the Saskatoon Community Foundation, which is the administrator for the grants.
