High Winds Drag Anchor and Sailboat Across Cobourg Harbour Basin

In Local, Weather

There were a few tense moments for one boat owner as high winds dragged his anchor, and sailboat across Cobourg Harbour and into the east pier early Friday, August 18, 2023.

The owner told Today’s Northumberland it was around midnight when he was awakened and realized his boat was being dragged across the Cobourg Harbour basin towards the east pier wall.

When he approached the pier the sailboat stopped less than one metre away from boulders which could have severely damaged the ship.

The sailboat was tied off until members of the Canadian Coast Guard Cape Rescue arrived and removed the boat from the wall and found a dock slip for the vessel.
