Organizers said the Lake Yacht Racing Association’s 2023 eight-metre North American Championships was a huge success this past weekend in Cobourg.

The Cobourg Yacht Club hosted the LYRA 2023 8mR and R-Class Championship which ran from August 4-6, 2023 and Rear Commodore Anne McCaughey they are so thankful to everyone in the town, the marina, the attendees and competitors.

McCaughey said they were “very fearful there wouldn’t be enough wind, but there was.”

There was enough wind for a full compliment of eight races, with only one protest, which is normal in sailing McCaughey said.

With the Cobourg Yacht Club being a central place to race on Lake Ontario, it was a perfect venue for this years race.

One of the boats racing was built in the 1920’s, but whether they are wooden or more modern ones made of fibreglass, they are just as much work.

“We’re thrilled. This has been a big effort for everybody here. And they really pulled it off.”
