Rear-End Collision on Highway 401 at Cobourg Sends Two People to Hospital

In Local, Police Blotter

Two people were taken to hospital after a pickup truck slammed into their vehicle on Highway 401 on Friday, August 4, 2023.

At approximately 3 p.m. Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched to the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 for a two-vehicle collision.

When emergency services arrived, they discovered the collision was actually in Cobourg’s area and Cobourg Fire Department were dispatched along with Northumberland OPP and paramedics.

It appears that eastbound traffic had stopped due to congestion and a pickup truck failed to slow down and slammed into the back of the car, driving it forward into another vehicle.

The driver of the pickup truck was shaken, but wasn’t taken to the hospital. Two people from the car were taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of the third vehicle weren’t injured.

The driver of the pickup was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
