On August 1, 2023, OPP officers received a call from a business owner in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township advising that his business had been broken into some time through the night and a safe as well as some antique coins had been taken. The safe, an antique Italian made safe (image attached), Spanish silver coins from the 1700’s, British silver coins from the 1800’s, and a silver necklace totaling an approximate value of nearly $10,000 were all taken. Damage was done to an entranceway when the suspect(s) forced their way into the business. No one was at the business when this occurred.

Investigators are actively looking for information that may lead to the identification of the suspect(s) involved in this theft. Police urge the public to call in tips on this case, or others, to the Peterborough OPP at 705-742-0401, the non-emergency line (888) 310-1122 or to Crime Stoppers.
