Breaking News – Person Under Arrest After Stabbing in Cobourg

A 43-year-old Cobourg man has been arrested following a stabbing on Monday, Just 24, 2023.

At approximately 6 a.m. Cobourg Police were notified of a stabbing at a residence on Major Street, south of University Avenue East in Cobourg’s east end.

A 39-year-old man who was stabbed, walked to 413 Division Street and was attended to by occupants of the home on the front steps, then treated by Northumberland County Paramedics and taken to hospital with serious injuries. People who did treat the victim told Today’s Northumberland the person was stabbed once in the lower back.

Cobourg Police arrested one individual shortly after arriving at the home on Major Street.

Along with Northumberland OPP, Cobourg Police surrounded the home with guns drawn.

At 8:15 a team of officers with guns drawn on the residence walk past a child’s scooter in the driveway and enter the home to clear the home and make sure there were no other armed individuals or victims inside.. A short time later numerous people exited the home.

Police will remain on scene at both locations as the investigation continues.

 

Editors Note: Cobourg Police issued their first release at 8:08 a.m. stating they were dealing with a “critical incident” and gave location, but said nothing about a stabbing.

The second press release was issued by police at 10:50 a.m. (2.5 hours after the house was cleared by police) stating it was a stabbing and one person was in custody and there is no concern for public safety.
