Cobourg Police – Woodstock Resident Charged with Mischief, Theft and Possession (No Name Released)

A Woodstock resident has been charged with theft after police are called to a local business.

On Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 5:20 p.m., police were called to a theft in progress at a business in the northwest end of Cobourg. An individual was observed cutting the security devices off numerous items and hiding them in a shopping cart.

As a result of the police investigation, a 32-year-old man from Woodstock, Ontario, was arrested. During the arrest, police located a small quantity of suspected heroin. The man was charged with the following offences:

1. Mischief under $5,000 contrary to Section 430(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

2. Theft under $5,000 contrary to Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

3. Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to section 355(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

4. Possession of a Schedule 1 substance contrary to Section 4 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

The accused was held for a bail hearing on Friday, June 24, 2022.
