Organizers are “ecstatic” as the number of people and the support shown by the community of Colborne and surrounding area for the Ukes for Ukraine concert at the Keeler Centre held on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

Organizer Marie Lachner said over $9,000 was raised from the event with approximately 250 people attending.

“It was a wonderful event and I’m just over the moon with how many people showed up.”

“The most touching thing was to meet Mira and understand her story better and understand her perspective.”

Mira Knott is from Ukraine but has been living in Canada for the past five years.

Almost three weeks ago Knott was relieved that 8 members of her family safely arrived in Canada from Ukraine.

Artists donated their time for the event, there was a silent auction along with a number of activities.

Cobourg councillor Adam Bureau bid on a Ukrainian doll and gave it to Knott’s sister.

The Lions Club, the key sponsor of this event and it was so successful that extra tables had to be set up, with a line up of people at the door, waiting for admission at 5 p.m.

Nearly 300 meals were sold by Black Dress Catering with Ukraine cuisine and a $10 donation from each going to cause.

Money from the event is going to recognized Ukraine charities.
