Northumberland OPP – Vehicle Stop Leads to Firearm and Drug Investigation

A traffic stop in the early morning hours in Trent Hills resulted in a firearms and drug investigation that led to the arrest of the driver.

On April 28, 2022, at approximately 2:59 a.m., a member from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop in relation to an observed offence under the Highway Traffic Act.

As a result of the investigation, the officer discovered a loaded handgun, a taser, as well as what appeared to be various drugs, including cocaine, cannabis, and methamphetamine pills.
As a result, Wade SMART (age 50) of Belleville has been charged with multiple criminal offences.

The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 28, 2022
