In Local

Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services extinguished a fire quickly in downtown on Friday, April 8, 2022.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. emergency services were dispatched to a Walton Street address for a general fire alarm activated along with the smell of smoke.

Tenants of an apartment had been burning incense on top of a fridge and had left the apartment for a short period of time.

When they returned papers had ignited on top of the fridge.

Firefighters said because the fire was discovered quickly there was minimal damage.
