Seven players from the Northumberland region were part of the Quinte Red Devils team that won the Ontario Minor Hockey Association U11 ‘AAA’ championship in Oakville on Sunday.
Local players include Oliver McCulloch, Grady Riley, Cameron Stevens and Shea Teather from Cobourg, Thomas Marsden from Baltimore, Austin Pettey from Rosneath and Miller Nicholson of Campbellford.
“They bring a lot of hard work and good attitude to the rink,” said Red Devils head coach Gary Sage.
“It seems like the Northumberland area has been doing a good job of developing young players starting at the grassroots level like your tyke programs. It’s just showing that when you get to the higher level we’re drawing a lot of kids from that area so they’re developing and progressing with the best in the area. It’s nice to draw from them and all of our other areas so they’re doing a really good job down that way.”
Quinte went 5-0 during the OMHA tournament this past weekend and undefeated in eight playdown games leading up to it. The U11 group lost just four games all season including one regular season match-up and three in tournament play.
