Breaking News – Northumberland OPP – Charges Laid in Fatal Collision

Members of Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently on scene investigating a fatal collision involving a single motor vehicle which struck a hydro pole.

At approximately 1:30 am this on Saturday, March 19, 2022 police, along with fire, EMS and Hydro One, were called to the collision which took place on Wright Road, east of County Road 10 in Port Hope. It appears the vehicle was heading eastbound and went off the road and struck a hydro pole and tree.  The passenger of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at scene.

The driver was air lifted to a Toronto area hospital with serious injuries and has been charged with charged with operation while impaired cause death.

Drivers are reminded that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving.

Wright Road east of County Road 10 will remain closed for several hours as the investigation remains ongoing with the OPP Traffic Collision Investigation (TCI) team. Detours at set up at Tenth Line and Wright Road.
