Port Hope man and Cobourg woman charged with drug trafficking as a result of a search warrant executed in the Town of Cobourg.
In late February 2022, as part of an ongoing enhanced enforcement strategy targeting illegal drug activity affecting Northumberland County and the safety of our citizens, the Cobourg Police Service and the Port Hope Police Service commenced a drug investigation.
On the evening of Friday, February 25, 2022, members of the Cobourg Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch with the assistance of uniform officers, Scenes of Crime Officer, and the Belleville Police Service K-9 Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrant at a residence in downtown Cobourg.
Police seized a quantity of suspected Fentanyl, Cocaine, Crystal Methamphetamine, and Psilocybin.
Given the depth of the investigation and the outcomes, Cobourg Police Service is releasing the names of the accused persons. As a result, Catherine Wells (30) of Cobourg and Dustin Wesenberg (27) of Port Hope were arrested and jointly charged with:
1. Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (Fentanyl) for the Purpose of Trafficking, Contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances
2. Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (Cocaine) for the Purpose of Trafficking, Contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances
3. Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (Methamphetamine) for the Purpose of Trafficking, Contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances
4. Possession of a Schedule 3 Substance (Psilocybin) for the Purpose of Trafficking, Contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances
5. Two counts of Possession of a prohibited weapon, Contrary to Section 91(2) of the Criminal Code
Police seized approximately 21.7 grams of Cocaine, 0.5 grams of Crystal Methamphetamine, 1.5 grams of Fentanyl, and 19.5 grams of Psilocybin. Police also seized weigh scales and cell phones.
Both were released on an Undertaking with a court date of March 30, 2022.
