Ginny & Georgia – the Netflix series watched by 52-million subscribers within 28 days of its 2021 release – will return to Cobourg Feb. 22 to 25 for filming on a second season.
The Town of Cobourg will welcome the G2GSeries 2 Inc. Production company – with its 120 crew members, 100 background performers and 40 production trucks – to continue the mother-daughter series featuring Antonia Gentry and Brianne Howey.
“Ginny & Georgia centres on Ginny Miller, a 15-year-old who often feels more mature than her free-spirited 30-year-old mother Georgia Miller,” the announcement said.
Community Events Co-ordinator Jackie Chapman Davis is working closely with the production company, it continued, and has reviewed the COVID plan to ensure it meets all provincial regulations.
Filming preparations will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 22 and 23, with filming to take place Feb. 24 from 7 a.m. to 21 p.m. – followed by tear-down Feb. 25 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
During this time, residents will see American flags flying in place of Canadian flags in the filming locations – basically, Victoria Hall, Victoria Park and King Street West between Third and Hibernia.
Drivers can expect road closures on King Street West between Hibernia and Third from 6 to 11 p.m., as well as road closure with local access on Third Street between King and Albert from 4 to 11 p.m. There will also be intermittent traffic stoppages from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Queen Street West, McGill Street and Church Street, with intermittent traffic stoppages from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on King Street West. Cobourg Police Services will be working directly with the production company to ensure safety and traffic control.
Parking will be affected, due to the requirements of the film-production vehicles. Affected areas include the Albert Street Lot #6 South and a small portion of the Albert Street Lot #6 North, as well as meter parking spaces on Second Street (west side), Third Street (both sides), McGill Street, Queen Street an Church Street, as well as various spaces on King Street West. As well, the Centennial Pool lot will be taken up from Feb. 23 at 8 a.m. to Feb. 24 at 5 p.m., and the McGill Street parking lot on Feb. 24 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Revenues from parking meters that will be put out of use to accommodate filming will be paid for by G2G Series 2 Inc. During that time. The Town of Cobourg is working closely with the production team to ensure they meet all municipal requirements and COVID restrictions.
