HKPR District Health Unit – Get Aboard the GO-VAXX Bus in Brighton This Sunday to Get Vaccinated

In Local

Getting on this bus will help get you to where you want to be in terms of protection against COVID-19.

The GO-VAXX bus will be in Brighton this Sunday (December 12) from 10 am to 4 pm at King Edward Park (75 Elizabeth St.). A warming area will be available inside the adjacent King Edward Park Arena where people can wait pre- and post-vaccination.

The retrofitted GO bus that serves as a mobile COVID-19 vaccination clinic will be available to provide first, second and booster doses. COVID-19 vaccines for children aged 5-11 years will also be available. No appointments are needed.

“Getting aboard the bus for a vaccine can put you on the road to better protection against COVID-19,” says Doreen Boville, a Health Promoter with the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit.

Currently, people age 70+ (born in 1951 or earlier), Indigenous adults and adult non-Indigenous household members, health care workers or essential care providers, and individuals who received a full series of AstraZeneca/Janssen vaccines can get a third dose. Third doses are only available to these individuals at least six months (168 days) after their second dose of vaccine.

Third doses for people aged 50 years and older does not start in Ontario until December 13.

Anyone wishing to get a vaccine on the GO-VAXX bus in Brighton is asked to bring their Ontario health card. If you do not have a health card or your health card is expired, bring another form of government photo ID such as a driver’s licence, passport, Status card, or birth certificate.

Local residents are reminded that the Health Unit is also holding COVID-19 vaccination clinics throughout Northumberland County. A list of dates and times through to the end of December is available at www.hkpr.on.ca or by calling the Health Unit at 1-866-888-4577, ext. 5020.
