City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Charges Laid After Infant Ingests Opioids

Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges after a 10-month-old infant ingested an opioid-based substance in the Town of Woodville.

On November 9, 2021, at approximately 4:40 pm, the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP and EMS were dispatched to a report of a 10-month-old who was in critical condition after being exposed to opioids. The infant was transported to a Toronto-area hospital.

One person fled the scene, and was later arrested upon attempting to re-enter th e scene. The individual, who will not be named to protect the identity of the victim, has been charged with:

  • Criminal Negligence Cause Bodily Harm
  • Fail to provide the Necessaries of Life
  • Mischief – two counts

 

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay, at a later date.
