In Local, Police Blotter

A Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Officer seized a number of fishing rods and nets from anglers who were charged with fishing illegally along the Ganaraska River in Port Hope on Monday, October 11, 2021.

At approximately 3 p.m. the MNR officer noticed numerous people fishing illegally in the Ganaraska River by Optimist Park.

Two people were charged with fishing in a closed season and fined $240 each and a third person was charged with fishing in a closed season and possession of fish obtained illegally and fined $305.

None of the people were from the Port Hope area.

When fishing it’s always best to check the area where you plan to be fishing. Having a fishing license does not mean you can fish anywhere at any time of the year.
