Northumberland County Confirms Security Firm Hired by County Involved in Incident that Resulted in Criminal Charges

Today’s Northumberland has learned more information about an incident that occurred in Northumberland Forest on June 5, 2021 that resulted in two people being charged with criminal offences.

The incident happened in the township of Cramahe in Northumberland Forest stated a press release by Northumberland OPP.

On Saturday June 5, 2021 police received information that an altercation had occurred between several people in the Northumberland Forest on the ATV trail system. The altercation involved a Honda side-by-side off road vehicle as well as a pick-up truck and resulted in a collision.

Two people were charged as a result of the collision.

David Hutnyk (age 42) of Port Hope has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and Larry Francis (age 52) of Cobourg has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and two charges of assault.

Director of Communications with Northumberland County, Kate Campbell stated the incident involved a security firm hired by Northumberland County for enforcing by-laws in the forest.

“The County is aware of the incident on June 5th involved (the security firm) and another party, pertaining to use of the Forest trail network.”

“The individual (Hutnyk) was overseeing (security) staff by-law enforcement in the forest at the time.”

Campbell said the security firm, “continues to provide by-law enforcement services in the County Forest.”

“As this matter is currently before the courts, the County will not comment further on the matter.”

Both accused parties are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 20, 2021.
