Driver Charged With Careless Driving After Vehicle Strikes Hydro Pole

The driver of a pickup truck was charged with careless driving after colliding with a hydro pole in Alnwick/Haldimand Township on Wednesday, May 26, 2021.

At approximately 7 p.m. emergency services were dispatched to the area of Shelter Valley Road north of Vernonville between Dixon Drive and Inglis Road.

A pickup was travelling eastbound on Shelter Valley Road, went into the ditch, struck a culvert and became airborne.

The vehicle landed and struck a hydro pole snapping it. The lone occupant managed to free himself from the vehicle and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The roadway was closed in the area while hydro crews repaired the pole.

Approximately 314 customers have been affected by the outage. The estimated time for restoring the power completely is 4 a.m.

The driver who is from Alnwick/Haldimand Township is charged with careless driving.
